Weather Outlook for the March 9th Eclipse – #JHedzWorlD

Weather Outlook for the March 9th Eclipse

March 4, 2016; 5:20 PM ET

The next solar eclipse is rapidly approaching. The total solar eclipse will be visible from Indonesia to north of Hawaii. It occurs Wednesday March 9th (Tuesday west of the dateline)

Weather Outlook

March is a wet month across Indonesia. Many places average 12 inches of rain or more.

The Intertropical Convergence Zone is in the process of moving north. But, it will be squarely over a large portion of the eclipse path. Still it is not like it is cloudy across this area 24/7. Most of the cloud cover is associated with rain, so when the rain stops the sun comes out. But, tropical cyclones are a different story.

There will be the typical scattering of showers and thunderstorms across Indonesia. But also peeks of sun. There will be a tropical feature that will bring widespread cloud cover north of New Guinea towards Guam. This will affect the path of the Eclipse, south of Guam, perhaps at the point of maximum eclipse near some islands in Micronesia.

If you can’t make it to the West Pacific. There will be live broadcasts of the event.

Exploratorium in San Francisco

They have several feeds to can follow along at. Check www.exploratorium.edu for more information.

Slooh will also broadcast the event.

I will continue to update the forecast as the eclipse approaches! Thank’s for reading and just look up, you never know what you are going to see!
