MANILA — The Meralco Bolts are looking forward to playing with new import Allen Durham this PBA Governors’ Cup following a good outing in the recent Commissioner’s Cup.
The Bolts reached as far as the semifinal round, the franchise’s best finish in the league, with import Arinze Onuaku leading the way.
Meralco would have secured Onuaku again for the season-ending tournament, but the 6-foot-9 American is ineligible to play in the Governors’ Cup due to height restrictions. So the Bolts brought in Durham, a former import for Barako Bull.
“Durham can do what Arinze does, but I think overall in his game, he’s a better free-throw shooter. We’re excited to have him. He loves to rebound,” Meralco deputy coach Luigi Trillo told the PBA website.
Meralco team captain Jimmy Alapag agreed with Trillo’s sentiments.
“It’s going to be important that he provides that same presence that Arinze had. Obviously, Arinze’s a much bigger guy, but I remember playing against Durham when he was still with Barako and he was a presence inside. We’ll definitely need him to provide that for us,” Alapag said.
